1. Key Properties

AISI/SAE 4140 is a low-alloy steel with high strength, toughness, and excellent wear resistance. The material is known for its good machinability, hardness, and versatility in high-stress applications. When heat-treated, 4140 steel offers enhanced fatigue resistance and impact strength. It is particularly resistant to deformation and wear, making it ideal for applications in extreme environments. 4140 steel plates are used in manufacturing parts that require strength and resistance to shock, corrosion, and abrasion.

2. Applications/Industries

  • Automotive: Used in the production of crankshafts, gears, axles, and other components that must withstand high torque and wear.
  • Aerospace: Components like turbine shafts, aircraft frames, and landing gear parts that require strength and fatigue resistance under extreme conditions.
  • Oil & Gas: Drill pipes, valve bodies, and other oilfield equipment requiring resistance to high pressure, corrosion, and wear.
  • Heavy Machinery: Machine frames, spindles, shafts, and gears for heavy-duty equipment that experience high loads and stresses.
  • Power Generation: Components such as shafts, couplings, and gears used in power plants and turbine generators.
  • Tool Manufacturing: Dies, press tools, and cutting tools for heavy manufacturing processes requiring high durability.
  • Military & Defense: Armored components, weapon parts, and vehicle structures subjected to high stress and impact.
