1. Key Properties

51CrV4 (1.8159) is a high-carbon alloy spring steel that combines high tensile strength, good wear resistance, and excellent fatigue strength. The chromium and vanadium content in this steel enhance its hardenability and resistance to wear, making it ideal for applications that require high performance under high stress and fatigue conditions. It is also highly resistant to deformation, which makes it perfect for manufacturing springs, shocks, and other high-stress components. After heat treatment, it can achieve excellent hardness while maintaining toughness.

2. Applications/Industries

  • Automotive: Suspension springs, shock absorber components, leaf springs, and coil springs.
  • Heavy Machinery: Leaf springs, torsion bars, and mechanical components requiring high fatigue resistance.
  • Aerospace: Aircraft landing gear, suspension systems, and other structural components requiring high strength and fatigue resistance.
  • Tool Manufacturing: Springs and other tooling components subjected to mechanical stress and wear.
  • Industrial Equipment: High-stress components, such as spring-loaded valves and power transmission springs.
  • Railway: Railway suspension systems and components that require a combination of toughness and durability.

3. Certifications/Standards

  • ISO 9001 Certified: Ensures high-quality manufacturing and consistent production standards.
  • Meets DIN 17210 and EN 10089 Specifications: Adheres to the European standards for spring steels.
  • Meets 51CrV4 (1.8159) Specifications: Complies with the specifications for high-carbon alloy spring steel.

4. Chemical Composition

  • Carbon (C): 0.52–0.59%
  • Silicon (Si): 0.25–0.50%
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.70–1.10%
  • Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.030%
  • Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.030%
  • Chromium (Cr): 0.70–1.10%

5. Technical Specifications

  • Yield Strength: Approx. 800–1000 MPa (depending on heat treatment)
  • Tensile Strength: Approx. 1000–1200 MPa
  • Hardness: 30–40 HRC (Rockwell Hardness) (before heat treatment)
